This Week at Frost 4/20/20
Dear Frost MS Students and Families,
I wanted to take the opportunity to reach out to all of you and to keep you informed. All of us received the message from the Superintendent regarding the delays in the Distance Learning plan that are occurring. I know that these technology issues, delays, and cancellations have been disappointing for you and your children. We were also disappointed to not have the ability to connect with our students this week. However, we teach our kids to be resilient, and it is good for us as educators to set an example.
As a school, we are controlling the pieces we can control. On Thursday and today, all of our teachers should have reached out to their students to provide opportunities that promote a continuity of learning. At this point, we are planning to return to our normal Distance Learning schedule on Wednesday. Feel free to reach out to any of our teachers directly if you have questions or need additional support.
We are a strong community and we will persevere through these recent challenges to foster our connections with each other. Thank you for the many kind words of support you have offered.
I hope that you have a good finish to your week. Stay safe and healthy.

Month of the Military Child – Purple Up!
April is designated as the Month of the Military Child to recognize and thank children from military families for the sacrifices made in service of our country. During the month, one day is selected as the day to “Purple Up! For Military Kids” and all are encouraged to wear purple in recognition of the strength and sacrifices of military-connected youth. Why purple? Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue.
This year, Purple Up! day will be celebrated virtually on Wednesday, April 22:
- Wear purple in your digital classrooms
- Tweet photos in purple clothing as a symbol of support @FrostMSVA #purpleup
At Frost, our military connected youth represent 12% of our population. To recognize the strength and resiliency of this portion of our larger Frost community, we are inviting students to participate in the activities below:
- Print and display this poster in the front window of your home to show passers by your support for our military connected youth
- Send a friend a thoughtful message to thank them for the sacrifices their family has made
Are you a Frost Military Connected Youth? We want to hear from you! Please complete this form.
One of our students, Yousef A., did a tribute drawing for his dad and other medical professionals. It was such a hit at all the INOVA hospitals, they are using the drawing as their logo now. It has been shared amongst medical professionals in Europe including BBC. I have attached it so you can share with others. We are so proud of him! Thanks to his parents for sharing and thanks to Yousef for sharing his talent with the world!!
National Latin Exam
Good news, students were set to take the National Latin Exam on March 13th and fortunately, since it was online, NLE let the students take it if they still wanted to. The results are in and of the nine students that took the exam, there were three gold medal and five silver medal recipients!! Congratulations to our students!!!
- The Library is open!! Ms. Powers and Ms. Alexander will be available for student and staff during the Lunch hour from 11:15-12:15, Tuesdays through Fridays. Information will be sent out concerning how to join a session next week.
- They will be answering questions, taking suggestions, posting tutorials, hosting discussions, and playing trivia.
- Students have access to a large collection of Ebooks and Audiobooks through their library accounts, as well as access to full-text articles, videos, and other database content.
- Students can also email us at @email
See you “in the Library”!
Our teachers are reporting there is still confusion regarding the weekly schedule.
Students Rights and Responsibilities (SRR)
FYI- The SRR is still in effect during distance learning. Students will still be held responsible for inappropriate behavior. Consequences ranging from parent conferences up to a Referral to the Division Superintendent are still in place. Speak with your children so they may understand this.
Student Support Site-Google
We have a support site for our students. Students can log in to get information concerning how to effectively navigate Blackboard and Blackboard Collaborate here: https://sites.google.com/fcpsschools.net/frostmsstudentsite/home. Any information posted here is germane to students only and/or has already been shared with parents.
In an effort to safeguard of faculty and staff’s health and safety, I am postponing any laptop and mifi service support until the week of April 26th. I am hopeful that by then we will have Mifis to distribute to families and that we will be able to service and/or switch out laptops. Our faculty and staff have been interacting with the public far too much for my liking the past three weeks. I ask for your understanding and patience until the week of April 26th. You may still contact me if you have tech issues. I will keep a running list and contact you individually with a time and date for equipment service.
Furthermore, the building is closed for access to lockers and other non-essential areas. Communication will be forthcoming once FCPS or the state of Virginia allows access to the building.
