Katy Kownacki, Assistant Principal

Kathryn Kownacki

Assistant Principal, MS

Ms. Katy Kownacki is delighted to begin her second year with the administration of Frost Middle School as assistant principal. With a remarkable tenure of 19 years in FCPS, she started her career as a special education teacher at her own alma mater, Robinson High School, where she also served as the coach for the cross country and track & field teams. Ms. Kownacki subsequently taught 6th grade at Union Mill Elementary School, but her passion for working with middle school students led her to embrace the roles of Creative Writing and English teacher at Thoreau Middle School, and most recently at Liberty Middle School.

Hailing from Burke, Virginia, Ms. Kownacki is a proud alumna of the University of Virginia, where she attained both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Teaching degree and later a certification in Administration and Supervision. Beyond her professional endeavors, Mrs. Kownacki dedicates her time to chauffeuring her three children to various activities, enjoying leisurely moments with a captivating book, and taking invigorating hikes alongside her husband and dog.

Ms. Kownacki firmly believes that schools should foster student-centered environments, where every student feels valued, secure, and empowered to derive joy from their educational journey.
