Dear Frost MS Students and Families,

As we approach the holiday season, I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for making this year incredibly special. Your presence and contributions have truly made a difference in our school community.

H - Here we are, at the end of another amazing year! Your hard work and dedication have been the driving force behind our collective success.

A - Amidst challenges, your adaptability and resilience have been truly admirable. Your ability to navigate difficulties with grace inspires us all.

P - Passion for learning and growing together has been at the heart of our journey this year. Your enthusiasm and curiosity brighten our days.

P - Positive attitudes and kindness toward one another have created a warm and welcoming environment within our school. Your support for each other makes our community stronger.

Y - Your efforts have been remarkable, and each one of you plays a vital role in our school's vibrant tapestry.

H - How heartwarming it is to see your compassion and empathy toward your peers and the community. Your kindness makes a significant impact.

9/29 | Frost MS After School Program Rules and Reminders

Frost MS After School Program Rules and Reminders

This update was posted to the parent all Schoology course on Friday, September 29th. 

1.   Students and parents should communicate with each other to determine which clubs/activities students will participate in each day.

2.   The after-school program starts directly after the last bell rings. Students who wish to participate should report directly to their club or teacher. Students who exit the building at the end of the school day will be instructed to report to their homes and will not be allowed back in to participate. All students should be with a teacher or in a club location by 2:25 pm.

3.   The after-school program is broken into two blocks of time: 2:25- 3:30 and 3:30-4:30. If a student has completed their time with a teacher, the teacher will escort them to the main office for parent pickup or to another club.

4.   At 3:30, students have the choice to stay in their chosen club, move to a different club or go to the main office to sign out.  They can walk home or have their parents pick them up.

5.   Dismissal begins at 4:30 pm; however, the buses come in sporadically up until 5:15. You should expect your child to be at home by 6:00 pm.

6.   Parents must come into the office and sign students out if they are being picked up early between the following times:  2:30 - 3:30 and 3:45 - 4:30. All students are released for parent pick up at 3:30 and then again at 4:30.

7.   Students who leave campus for any reason are not allowed to come back to participate in the after-school program. 

8.   Students who leave campus are not allowed to come back to ride the late buses that are provided for students participating in the after-school program.

9.   Late Buses are provided on each day of the week besides Friday. Students must be picked up by parents on Friday.

10.  Students who do not report to school during the day, are not allowed to participate in the after-school program.

11.  Please follow the direction of the after-school program staff when picking students up after 4:30pm.

12.  Cell phones are not allowed during the after-school program.

1st Annual No-Fuss Fundraiser
 

Greetings Frost Middle School Families,

We are reaching out to inform our community of a new way to support the needs of our students through a No-Fuss Fundraiser! 

As you may know, fundraising is critical to supporting the success of our instructional programming.  We are thrilled to partner with our awesome Frost MS PTA in this endeavor!  Please continue to support our PTA throughout the school year! They have tons of offerings and events and  are an amazing support and partner to Frost MS! And don’t forget to join the PTA as well! Click the Image below for more information. 

We have been exploring fundraising opportunities that do not require our students to sell goods and services to the public. We think a No-Fuss Fundraiser will help us accomplish our goals! 

Frost MS has a long-standing tradition of focusing on academic excellence and a positive school culture for all students and community members.  To continue to support this culture in our newly renovated space, we plan to use funds raised for the following:

  • Safety and Security- Funds will be used to purchase additional security cameras around campus in “blindspots” to enhance security. 
    • Estimated Cost for Additional Cameras- $10,000
  • Collaborative Learning Spaces - Funds will be used to encourage student collaboration and inquiry. We are designing three to four spaces around the inside of the school building. These spaces will have comfy furniture to encourage discourse and discussion, as well as presentation stations to make it easy for students to work together on projects. 
    • Estimated Cost for Collaborative Learning Spaces-$15,000
  • Schoolwide Culture and Climate - We are asking for your help with multiple beautification projects. The proceeds from this portion of the fundraiser will celebrate the spirit of Frost Middle School and the Frost community. These might include, but are not limited to, wall and window murals, courtyard enhancements, and signage to support communication during our school wide events.
    • Estimated Cost for Culture and Climate- $25,000

The No-Fuss Fundraiser will be the only school-sponsored fundraiser this year.   This is your opportunity to directly contribute to our school community!  We are asking that each Frost MS family contribute $100.00.  You can always donate more or less based on your family’s finances!  Our goal is $50,000 and we will be closing this fundraiser on November 17, 2023, right before the holiday season.  

We will also keep the community posted along the way to our goal with frequent updates! 

You may doate using MySchoolBucks by going to the School Store and navigating to the No Fuss Fundraiser icon. 

You may also complete this form and return it with your donation to the main office.  Checks should be payable to Frost Middle School.  Finally, you may mail donations to Frost Middle School, 4101 Pickett Road, Fairfax, VA 22032.

Topic 506 - Charitable Contributions

Charitable contributions are deductible only if you itemize deductions on Form 1040, Schedule A

To be deductible, charitable contributions must be made to qualified organizations. Payments to individuals are never deductible. See Publication 526, Charitable Contributions

If your contribution entitles you to merchandise, goods, or services, including admission to a charity ball, banquet, theatrical performance, or sporting event, you can deduct only the amount that exceeds the fair market value of the benefit received. 

For a contribution of cash, check, or other monetary gift (regardless of amount), you must maintain as a record of the contribution a bank record or a written communication from the qualified organization containing the name of the organization, the date of the contribution, and the amount of the contribution. In addition to deducting your cash contributions, you generally can deduct the fair market value of any other property you donate to qualified organizations. See Publication 561, Determining the Value of Donated Property. For any contribution of $250 or more (including contributions of cash or property), you must obtain and keep in your records a contemporaneous written acknowledgment from the qualified organization indicating the amount of the cash and a description of any property contributed. The acknowledgment must say whether the organization provided any goods or services in exchange for the gift and, if so, must provide a description and a good faith estimate of the value of those goods or services. One document from the qualified organization may satisfy both the written communication requirement for monetary gifts and the contemporaneous written acknowledgment requirement for all contributions of $250 or more. 

You must fill out Form 8283 (PDF), and attach it to your return, if your deduction for a noncash contribution is more than $500. If you claim a deduction for a contribution of noncash property worth $5,000 or less, you must fill out Form 8283, Section A. If you claim a deduction for a contribution of noncash property worth more than $5,000, you will need a qualified appraisal of the noncash property and must fill out Form 8283, Section B. If you claim a deduction for a contribution of noncash property worth more than $500,000, you also will need to attach the qualified appraisal to your return.

Frost MS Meditation and Silent Reflection Space Practices and Procedures

In alignment with FCPS regulations and expectations, Frost MS ensures that students and staff of all religious backgrounds have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection spaces within the school building. The following are our guidelines as of 9/13/23. 

  • Our meditation and silent reflection space is located outside of the main office suite close to the clinic in Room A127 This is our current space. It may change throughout the school year. If so, FMS students and staff will be notified. 
  • Supervision may or may not  be provided in the meditation and silent reflection space. If there are safety concerns, other accommodations will be discussed. 

Prayer, Meditation, and Silent Reflection during Instructional Time

Use of Meditation and Silent Reflection Spaces

  • Individuals using the space shall abide by the following rules and guidelines
    • Intended for personal use
    • Respect the rights and beliefs of others
    • Use of the space is voluntary; no one should be compelled to use or participate in activities within the space
    •  The SRR applies to all students who use the space. 
    • The reflection space is available during the school day during regular hours.
    • Students report to the main office to check in. 

Prayer, Meditation, and Silent Reflection during Non-Instructional Time (Before school, lunch, after school)

 Students will receive permission to use space from their supervising adult and report to the main office to check in.
